    MOTIVATIONAL TALK ON Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Civil Engineering
    Applied Mechanics Department with support of SSIP, Gujarat Cell, LDCE organized an Motivational Talk on “Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Civil Engineering” by expert speaker Shri Rakesh H. Shah, Managing Director, S3M Design Consultants LLP, Ahmedabad as a part of SSIP awareness program on 29th Sept 2018, VS Hall, AMD. More than 118 students of 3rd &5th Sem Civil Engg attended the program along with faculties. The program was coordinated by Dr.M.V. Shah & Prof.P.J. Mehta.

    Site visit
    As per the academic calendar the Students of B. E. sem.-7 were taken for the first site visit at construction site of Hostel building of L. D. college of engineering on 30.6.18. The students observed a real life know how on various construction activities like formwork and shuttering arrangement, bar-bending, reinforcement arrangement, concreting and in site aspects of quality control. Prof.A.J.Shah, Prof. D.H.Raval and Prof. B.R.Patel accompanied them on the site visit.
    
     
  • SITE VISIT - STATUE OF UNITY , SARDAR SAROVAR DAM, UKAI DAM SITE


    SITE VISIT - STATUE OF UNITY , SARDAR SAROVAR DAM, UKAI DAM SITE
    A technical site visit to Surat was arranged for ME ( Structures + Geo-technical) on 15th & 16th Feb’18. The purpose of the visit was to have an insight into the construction of all the major high end projects such as Statue of Unity, Sardar Sarovar Dam and Ukai Dam Site. 
    The highlights of the site visit were the construction of the Core element of the Statue of Unity which is about 157 m high, Routine Inspection Gallery & Gates of the Sardar Sarovar dam site, Pressure regulator unit and Infiltration gallery at Ukai Dam site and Construction of Cable stayed bridge at Surat. A total number of 55 students along with faculty members Prof. B.J.Panchal, Prof.U.K.Patel, Prof.MV.Shah, Prof.C.D.Patel, Prof.B.R.Patel, Prof. S.R.Singh and Prof. Nehal Bhavsar had made the visit with prior permission from the concerning agency.  
  • STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT


    STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
    Students of B.E.Civil VIth Sem had participated in the Sparkling Star Contest organized by Ultratech Cement Ltd. Students of B.E.Civil (VIth Sem) – Garima Lodha, Het Modi & Drashti Shah were shortlisted in the Preliminary Round and later on bagged the Second position in the final round of the contest. The students were awarded Certifciate of Participation as well as prize money of Rs3000/- each on 10th Feb’18. Students were mentored by Prof. D.R.Tarachandani, Prof. P.I.Modi & Prof. D.K.Oza.
    
    •	Het Modi, Drashti Shah, Abhijeet Panchal, Kina Shah, students of B.E. Sem VIIIth, had participated in the National Level event entitled “ INSDAG Civil Award Competition 2017-18”. The event required students to design an Innovative Car Service Station. These students are among the 19 teams across the nation shortlisted for the final round, the latter will be organized at Kolkata in Feb’19. Students were mentored throughout and will be mentored further by Prof. C.D.Patel.  
  • EXPERT TALK


    EXPERT TALK
    As a part of the Pedagogical series, an expert talk was arranged on following topics on 18th Nov’2017. 
    -	(i) Causes of cracks and its repair techniques for Masonry Structures. This lecture was delivered by Er.Vijay Shah, CEO of M/s Bhoomi Consultants. The purpose of the lecture was to help the students get conversant with the various factors that cause distress in masonry structures and the techniques that can help correct the distress.
    -	(ii)Report Writing & Presentation Skills” – This lecture was delivered by Mr.Anand Mohan Pandey, who is the Project Manager in the Advisory Vertical of Mott MacDonald India Ltd. The main aim of the this lecture was to inculcate the practice of articulating the thoughts into their report and some handy tips were given to the students using which they can make their presentation more appealing and reader friendly.

    EXPERT TALK ON Durability of Cement based building materials” and “ Nano-technology in Road building
    As a part of the Pedagogical series, an expert talk was arranged on topics “ Durability of Cement based building materials” and “ Nano-technology in Road building” on 1st july’2017. Both the lectures were delivered by the expert “Dr. Prakash Mehta – Director of Tawata Technology”. 
    Sir in his expert talk gave a comprehensive explanation on the factors that affect the durability of cement based materials and the ways through which it can be prevented. He shared the details of the surface treatment (Silane technology) developed by him, the technology has proved to be very effective in preventing the penetration of water into the concrete and masonry surfaces. The expert talk was attended by all the faculties & students of Civil & Applied Mechanics department. The talk also gave the students an insight into the various new topics pertaining to new materials and technologies that can be taken up by them for their dissertation work.
     
  • STTP ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT


    STTP ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT
    Department had organized Two Week Interdisciplinary Short Term Training Program on Disaster Management between (19th – 30th Dec’2016). The training was sponsored by Gujarat Technological University and was held under the aegis of Office of Commissioner of Technical Education, Gandhinagar. 32 participants from various Degree and Polytechnic college from all over the state completed this course successfully. The inauguration function of the STTP was presided over by Dr.Rajul Gajjar (In-charge VC of GTU), Mr.Dinesh Vasvani (Wing Commander) & Dr.G.P.Vadodaria (Principal of LDCE).
    
    During the 10 day training programme, the participants had an interaction with eminent speakers who were deliberating on various topics pertinent to management of the Disasters that included the mechanisms for monitoring or mitigation of the different types of the disasters, various policies and standards. The major highlights of the STTP were the “Mock-Drill” and the Visit of 108. The valedictory function was presided over by Dr.M.N.Patel (VC of Gujarat University).    
  • SHRAM ABHIYAN DIWAS


    SHRAM ABHIYAN DIWAS
    The department celebrated 16thApril’2016 as the “Shram Abhiyan Diwas”. All the students of the B.E.Civil (6th Sem) and M.E. Sem (II & IV) (CASAD & GEO), along with the faculties participated in the event. The big team of students divided themselves into groups of 15 students each headed by the faculty, and took up the mammoth task of cleaning the entire department including the corridors, laboratories, common plot, Vishwashreya hall. 
    The purpose of the activity was two- fold. Firstly to clean up the laboratories of all the debris that had accumulated due to Semester’s practical work, secondly to give the department a clean ambience before the event of “Grand Farewell” to be organized on 22nd April.
