Visit to GIDM - GUJARAT INSTITUTE OF DISASTER MANAGEMENT, was organized for students of B.E. Civil (Sem VI) and M.E. Civil (Structures + Geo-tech)-Sem II on 20.4.24.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Gujarat State Centre, Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), Ahmedabad and L.D.College of Engineering ( Department of Applied Mechanics & Civil Engineering) has organized 2 Expert Talks on 22nd March;24 at 11 onwards to celebrate the Theme of "Water for Peace"
The department organizes this Meet with all the leading structural engineers in order to help the PG students pursuing Masters in Structural Engineering to choose their areas for Dissertation. The motive is also to strengthen the Industry-Academia collaboration and also to provide the students with the right Co-mentors for their dissertation.
The department launched its annual edition of Magazine entitled "Abhiyantriki" in august presence of dignitaries who had graced the 76th Independence Day celebrations at LDCE.
The Students chapter of Indian Concrete Institute was inaugurated by the department of Applied Mechanics of L.D.College of Engineering on 11th August’23(Friday). The department under the able leadership of Principal Major Dr.C.S.Sanghvi and Head of Department – Dr.Gopal M. Tank, had envisioned this idea of opening of the student’s chapter under the aegis of ICI. The inauguration was carried out in the premises of the college in Room No 626 – Vishweswaraya hall in Applied Mechanics department on 11th August’23 amidst the august presence of esteemed dignitaries of ICI fraternity such as Shri Umesh Soni – Head Technical Services, Adani Cement – Ambuja and ACC, Governing Council, West Zone, ICI, India; Shri Pradeep Jain ( Chairman, ICI, Ahmedabad Chapter), Shri Hitesh Barot ( Secretary, ICI, Ahmedabad Chapter). The other dignitaries that graced the dais were Major Dr.C.S.Sanghvi ( Principal (I/C), LDCE), Dr.Gopal M. Tank ( Head of Applied Mechanics Dept) and Dr.Tejas Joshi ( Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, Nirma University). The gathering that attended the Inaugural session comprised of Head of all other departments, faculty members of Applied mechanics department, 31 students who became the members of chapter, 60 students from B.E Sem V Civil.
A session by Shri Ajay Chandel ( Deputy Director, BIS, Ahmedabad) for taken on "Compilation of the BIS standard. The session was arranged specially for all the newly admitted students of B.E. Civil Engineering. The session was followed by writing competition where in students were divided into separate groups and were asked to draft "Standard" for different items allocated to them. The entries were then evaluated and the Winners were announced and felicitated.
Students of B.E. Civil Sem VI named Tarang Patel, Sneh Bhavsar, Preet Vasava and Ritu Barad under the mentorship of Prof.C.D.Patel, were declared winner in “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Hackathon 2022” and awarded 1st Position and prize money of Rs.50,000/- for their project entitled “Pre-monsoon and Post Monsoon Inspection of Bridge.
Aditya Pal, passed out student of Batch 2022, was awarded Gold Medal by GICEA on 11.2.2023 for his excellent performance in subject Repairs and Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures.
A technical Tour to the "Precast Manufacturing Plant" at Sanand Makol, was organized for BE SemVII students as a part of their curriculum activity. A total of 43 students along with 3 faculty members had joined the tour. Tour was exclusively arranged for the students who had opted for the Elective of "Precast Construction". The technical tour was appreciated by the students as it helped the students to get familiar with the precast manufacturing,lifting,stacking and transportation processes. Prof.P.J.Mehta, Prof.A.G.Hansora and Prof.Poonam I. Modi had coordinated the entire tour.
An essay competition on “GREEN BUILDING” was organised by the department under the aegis of the Climate Change Youth Outreach Program, LAA Alumni Association, and 75th year celebration of LDCE. The competition was arranged on 22nd September 2022 Thursday in Visveswaraya Hall in room no.626 at 11:00 am. All UG students have participated in the competition. And Three students of BE Sem-I Civil were shortlisted for certification. 1st Prize was bagged by Mirza Mominkhan Mirza, 2nd and 3rd prize was awarded to Deep Rakholiya and Ayushi Hitesh Lathiya respectively.
