Mr Ankit Mishra, Christian Albrechts University of Kiel, Germany, has delivered an online lecture on “Polymeric Material” on 14th August 2020. 3rd sem students have taken the benefit of the same. Overall coordination was done by Dr Anjali Bishnoi. During his talk, he briefed about the polymer, their structure, unique properties of polymer and their various applications. He enlightened the applications of polymeric material in day to day routine life and also explained the role of the same in space applications. Overall it was a very interesting, informative and knowledge gaining session.
A one-day webinar on “Schrödinger Equation” was organized by Chemical Engineering Department, L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad at 08th July 2020. A total of 101 participants including faculties from chemical engineering department and 1st and 2 nd year students. The inauguration was held on 08/07/2020 at 11:30 AM. The Keynote speaker was Prof. (Dr.) Asha Bhardwaj Assistant professor, IISC Bangalore. During the online session expert shared her knowledge and experiences with the participants. The faculty and First year students benefitted immensely from the lectures and experiences shared by the expert. All the participants gave a positive feedback about the workshop and welcomed the initiative.
The online Kaizen 2020 for Chemical Engineering Department was conducted with 4 panels of faculties reviewing all the teams of final year IDP/UDP projects on dated 3rd April, 2020 through Zoom meeting app. Total 13 faculty members had reviewed 15 teams (total 71 students).
An industrial visit was organized for the students of 6th semester to Macro Polymers Pvt LTD , Bavla-Sanand Road, Ahmedabad. 38 students of BE 6th semester participated in the visit on 26/02/2020. Macro Polymers Pvt LTD manufactures Alkyd Resins, Butylated Melamine Formaldehyde Resin, Butylated Urea Formaldehyde Resins, Maleic Modified Rosin Ester, Acrylic Resins, Epoxy Resin, Epoxy Hardner & Ketone Resin. The students were first given a tour of the plant where they saw vacuum reactors for the synthesis of resins. Thereafter, a visit to the testing lab ensured that the students got an exposure to various aspects of quality control. Finally, a tour of research and development lab was arranged where many senior professionals and experts interacted with the students about the importance of research and motivated them for getting updated with the latest trends and developments in the chemical engineering field. The students could also relate to concepts like reflux, various types of heat xchanger, and safety procedures followed in the industry during the plant visit. The trip was capped off by a feedback session where both students and company staff shared their views on the day's event.
An expert lecture series by Dr. M. N. Vyas was arranged for the students of 6th semester from 11/02/2020. The topic was related to the subject Pollution control, safety and health management.in this lecture most of the syllabus of the course was covered. Dr. M.N. Vyas shared his industrial experiences as the subject have more industrial fundamentals which helped students to understand the pollution control and safety measures that are used in industries. In this lecture students learned how to prevent accident that are occurring on site and near the industrial areas due to industries and further explained how to prevent those accidents.
Prof. B.C. Meikap from IIT Kharagpur had delivered an expert talk about “Air and Dust Pollution Control” on 07/02/2020 to 1st and 3rd year students. He discuss the sources and causes of Air pollution. How industries play its role in polluting environment, and how industries uses different devices to collect the dust and prevent air pollution. He explained about air diffusers. He discussed the control measures taken by government. After having been graduates student being part of any organization as a process developer or process engineer can implement their ideas to protect environment by designing or modifying the design or identifying the problem or comparing the situation with experienced shared by the expert.
An expert talk was arranged for 6th semester students on “Concept of Group Discussion and Personal Interview” by r. Mayank Trivedi on 06/02/2020. He is a part of the Career guidance GATE forum. It was a two way conversation with students. He discussed about important points to be consider during GD. He also explained about how to present our thoughts in group discussion and one can make one’s own impression in the GD. He further discussed about the PI which are the factors to be focused on and how to be confident during PI. By this lecture our student can able to perform well in GD as well as can crack any interview in their future.
Dr. Maulik Bakshi from Apollo Hospital had deliverd the lecture on Thalassemia awareness was arranged for 2nd and 3rd year students on 24/01/2020. Dr. Bakshi is from Rotary club which includes such awareness program all over Gujarat. Dr. Bakshi explained about the importance of Thalassemia and why the thalassemia test is necessary. He also encourages students to get involved in Thalassemia awareness at their localities which will provide knowledge to uneducated people in their localities.
Prof. R.N. Shukla, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering Department at L.D. College of Engineering, Delivered a eminar on Basics of IPR to 2nd and 3rd year students on 23/01/2020. She gave a detailed explanation on Intellectual Rights. She explained why the intellectual right is needed and why it is necessary. As our students are participating in Granted project by using their concept and creating their own patents this seminar will help them in future. She also gave some of the examples by which students can easily understand the need IPR.
Dr. Kinjal Shah , Associate Professor at Nanjing Tech University, China delivered a Lecture on “Implementation of Green Chemistry for sustainable Development “ to 2nd and 3rd year students on 21/1/20. He explained in detail about using green chemistry for sustainable development. He shared one of the research done by him in which he used green chemistry to save plant and water bodies in china. He discuss about present scenario of chemical industries where maximum sustainable process is require and what the role students are supposed to play as Chemical Engineer in the industry.
