Expert Lecture on “The Role of Chemical Engineering in the Age of AI-An Era of Bionic Chemical Engineers” by Mr Neel Shah , an alumnus of the Chemical Engineering Department, Mr Neel Shah, Technische University Berlin, Germany, has delivered an expert lecture on “The Role of Chemical Engineering in the Age of AI-An Era of Bionic Chemical Engineers” on 2nd November 2020 as a part of International Expert Lecture Series. Principal Dr Rajul Gajjar was the patron and Dr Paresh Rana was the Convener of the event. Lecture was well coordinated by Prof Amar Vaghela and Prof Hiral Pandya. This webinar was arranged to help the students to provide the insight in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in chemical engineering Mr Neel Shah discuused about the importance of AI and its broad application due to its easy designing, robustness and flexibility. He also talked various applications of AI in the chemical engineering field including modeling, process control, classification, fault detection and diagnosis. He created interest amosngst the students about AI and highlighted AI as a skill which in turn can enhance the employeebility. This sssion was full of knowledge and opened up a new direction for stduents.
A one-day webinar on "Scanning Electron Microscope” was organized by Chemical Engineering Department, L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad at 14thOctober-2020. A total of 98 participants including faculties from chemical engineering department and 1st and 2nd year students. The inauguration was held on 14/10/2020 at 3.00 M. The Keynote speaker was Prof. (Dr.) Charulata Dube Assistant professor, School of Nano science ,Central University of Gujarat ,Gandhinagar Gujarat Dr.Anajli Bishnoi introduced the eminent speaker and also brief her esearch in area of Nano technology and its application. During the online session expert shared her knowledge and experiences with the participants. he faculty and First year students benefitted immensely from the lectures and experiences shared by the expert. All the participants gave a positive feedback about the workshop and elcomed the initiative.
An industry-institute interaction was organized with Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd., Kalol unit on 8 th October, 2020. Head of the IIFCO Unit, Mr. D. G. Inamdar, Sr. Executive Director and Mr. S. Mohan, Deputy General Manager, IFFCO, Kalol unit interacted with the faculty members of Chemical Engineering Department, L D college of Engineering, Ahmedabad Dr. P. H. Rana, HoD, Chemical Department, Prof. S. M. Dutta and Prof. R. R. Patel. IFFCO, Kalol unit is an integrated Ammonia-Urea complex and manufactures chemical fertilizers. It is an ISO 9001 & 14001 and OHSAS 18001-2007 certified company. The interaction focussed on various aspects of human resources development. The main focus of discussion was on how to make students industry ready so that they can be directly absorbed by industry with minimal hands-on training. An assortment of activities like industrial visits, expert lectures, industrial training, and vocational training especially for the chemical engineering students were discussed and planned. The interaction was extremely positive with an understanding on creating an association with industry and institute for overall development of student community.
Chemical Engineering Department, L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad - Gujarat has organized a five days webinar series on "Emerging Trends in Chemical Engineering" from 28.09.20 to 03.10.20 daily at 4.00 to 5.30 PM. Inauguration of the event was on 28-09-20 at 3.30 pm to 4.00 PM. Webinars were conducted via Google Meet, online Platform. The event was chiefly organized by Dr. Anjali Bishnoi, and nicely coordinated by Prof. Pratik Patel, Prof. Vandana Gojiya, Prof. Sandip Bhatt, Prof. Hiral Pandya, Prof Rupal Ruperi, Prof. T. S. Rajaraman under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Paresh H. Rana (convener). More than 500 participants were registered which includes Students, Academicians and Industry Professionals. Inauguration was on 28-09-20 at 3.30 pm to 4.00 PM through the digital platform Google Meet. The convener Prof. (Dr.) Paresh H. Rana gave brief introduction about the five days webinar series. He also gave overview of department to the speakers and the participants. Principal, LDCE, Prof. (Dr.) Rajul K. Gajjar addressed the gathering and gave a motivation speech. Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Mr Ashish N. Soparkar, MD, Meghmani Organics Ltd. He appreciated the efforts of department of chemical engineering and also offered few schemes for industry institute collaboration. Chemical Engineering Department, LDCE had arranged a virtual industrial visit at Sagar Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad for their under graduate students on 14th September 2020 coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) S. R. Shah and Prof. P. B. Patel. About 150 students of department took benefit of the same. Mr. Saurabh Bhatiya, Head of Environment Department at Sagar Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ldt. explained about the company, their safety and environment policies and the products they manufacture i.e. Vinyl Sulphonic acid, Nitrobenzene, Thionylchloride, Sulphuric Acid, Ethylene, etc. He had also briefed about the process and the difficulties with process when it is concern to the environment. Then we were brought to scrubber system where acid gases namely chlorine and sulphur dioxide are removed from gas stream in such a way that these gases are discarded in ambient below the permissible limits. Later the spray dryer was described by him where he took closed look on the hot gas generator and the sprayer. We were also able to visit their product packaging unit and the raw material storage. At the end Prof. (Dr.) Paresh Rana, Head of Chemical Engineering Department, LDCE appreciated students for participating and thanked the company management for allowing this virtual industrial visit.

College of Engineering, Ahmedabad - Gujarat has organized a webinar on "My Story - Entrepreneur's Life & Crossroad" under stewardship of Institute Innovation Council (IIC) Cell, LDCE, supported by SSIP cell, LDCE Ahmedabad LDCE on 28/08/2020 at 12 noon. This webinar was the part of the Three days webinar series on “Outreach program on innovation and Entrepreneurship”. The eminent Speaker was Ms. Pallavi Bishnoi, Director & Co-founder, Real Time Renewable Pvt .Ltd. She is detailed and result-oriented consultant offering extensive background in water/wastewater management, sustainable solutions and renewable energy. She has hands-on engineer with 9 years of global experience in the environment sector- UK, USA, Norway and India. The seminar was co-ordinated by Dr. Anjali Bishnoi, Prof. Pratik Patel, Prof. Vandana Gojiya. Students, Professionals, and Academicians, Industry partners have attended the webinar. The webinar was organized through the digital platform Google Meet. The convener Prof. (Dr.) Manish Thakkar gave brief introduction about this three days of webinar series. He also gave brief introduction of SSIP cell, IPR cell and about the PoC projects funded under SSIP and about the students sensitized through the SSIP awareness Program to the speaker and to the participants. Around 200 students participated in this webinar. Ms. Pallavi Bishnoi started the lecture with the quote of Steve jobs “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.” She shared the story of her how she changed her mind about to move India from US and starting up something for waste water management and solar energy. She explained the components of business which are market, finance, team, incubator, mentor and network. She also talked about the failure that you have to see failure as the beginning and the middle, but never entertains it as an end.She talked about the challenges, failure and success in the path of the entrepreneurship. After her inspiring talk, she answered the queries about the E-waste generated from solar panels. She explained how to get fund for start-up. She provoked students not to quench their dreams and always remain hungry for more dreams. Vote of thanks was offered by Dr Anjali Bishnoi.
Mr Ankit Mishra, Christian Albrechts University of Kiel, Germany, has delivered an online lecture on “Polymeric Material” on 14th August 2020. 3rd sem students have taken the benefit of the same. Overall coordination was done by Dr Anjali Bishnoi. During his talk, he briefed about the polymer, their structure, unique properties of polymer and their various applications. He enlightened the applications of polymeric material in day to day routine life and also explained the role of the same in space applications. Overall it was a very interesting, informative and knowledge gaining session.

A total of 101 participants including faculties from chemical engineering department and 1st and 2 nd year students. The inauguration was held on 08/07/2020 at 11:30 AM. The Keynote speaker was Prof. (Dr.) Asha Bhardwaj Assistant professor, IISC Bangalore. During the online session expert shared her knowledge and experiences with the participants. The faculty and First year students benefitted immensely from the lectures and experiences shared by the expert. All the participants gave a positive feedback about the workshop and welcomed the initiative.
The online Kaizen 2020 for Chemical Engineering Department was conducted with 4 panels of faculties reviewing all the teams of final year IDP/UDP projects on dated 3rd April, 2020 through Zoom meeting app. Total 13 faculty members had reviewed 15 teams (total 71 students).
An industrial visit was organized for the students of 6th semester to Macro Polymers Pvt LTD , Bavla-Sanand Road, Ahmedabad. 38 students of BE 6th semester participated in the visit on 26/02/2020. Macro Polymers Pvt LTD manufactures Alkyd Resins, Butylated Melamine Formaldehyde Resin, Butylated Urea Formaldehyde Resins, Maleic Modified Rosin Ester, Acrylic Resins, Epoxy Resin, Epoxy Hardner & Ketone Resin. The students were first given a tour of the plant where they saw vacuum reactors for the synthesis of resins. Thereafter, a visit to the testing lab ensured that the students got an exposure to various aspects of quality control. Finally, a tour of research and development lab was arranged where many senior professionals and experts interacted with the students about the importance of research and motivated them for getting updated with the latest trends and developments in the chemical engineering field. The students could also relate to concepts like reflux, various types of heat xchanger, and safety procedures followed in the industry during the plant visit. The trip was capped off by a feedback session where both students and company staff shared their views on the day's event.
