Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering (LDCE), Ahmedabad, is a premier government engineering institute in Gujarat, established with the vision of advancing education, research, and training in the fields of engineering and technology. Founded in June 1948 through the generous donation of ₹25 lakhs and 31.2 hectares of land by renowned industrialist Sheth Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai, the college was named in honor of his father, Lalbhai Dalpatbhai. Strategically located adjacent to Gujarat University, the LDCE campus is surrounded by several national-level institutions such as the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA), and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad.

L.D. College of Engineering (LDCE) was established on June 20, 1948, making it one of the earliest engineering institutions in India. The college was founded through the visionary efforts of industrialist Kasturbhai Lalbhai, who named the institution in honor of his father, Lalbhai Dalpatbhai. Originally affiliated with the University of Bombay, LDCE became part of Gujarat University following its establishment in 1949.
The Lalbhai family generously donated the land for the college campus and played a significant role in shaping the institute during its formative years. LDCE began its academic journey by offering undergraduate programs in Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering, with an initial intake of 35 students in each discipline.
