Civil Engineering is a broad and dynamic discipline that focuses on the design, construction, and maintenance of both natural and built environments. The program equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan, analyze, design, estimate, and execute engineering projects by applying scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles. They design and construct the infrastructure that powers our daily lives — from roads, bridges, metros, and airports to dams, power plants, and water supply systems. Beyond large-scale projects, civil engineers also contribute to sustainable urban development, creating smarter cities with eco-friendly buildings, waste management solutions, and resilient transport networks. Civil Engineers are the nation-builders of modern society. The program covers a wide range of sub-disciplines, including; Building Planning and Construction, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Pollution Control, Urban Transportation Planning, Traffic Engineering and Pavement Design, Geotechnical Engineering, Advanced Structural Mechanics, Prestressed Concrete and Computer Applications in Structural Engineering.
The Undergraduate Civil Engineering program has been re-accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for a period of three years, from July 2022 to June 2025. This recognition reflects the department’s sustained commitment to high academic standards and the delivery of quality technical education. The Undergraduate Civil Engineering program has a strong record of accreditation by NBA during the periods from 2005 – 2008, 2012 – 2015 and 2019 – 2022. Additionally, the department has successfully secured accreditation for its Postgraduate programs; Water Resources & Management: 2009 – 2012 and Transportation Engineering: 2009 – 2012.
