On 3rd February 2024, 25 students visited the Ahmedabad BRTS Control Room, guided by Prof. V. J. Chitaria, Prof. T. H. Vyas, and Prof. A. M. Mirza. The visit introduced students to intelligent transport systems (ITS), real-time traffic monitoring, and public transport management technologies, reflecting modern trends in urban mobility.
The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on the topic “SBS Modified Bitumen.” The session was delivered by Dr. Shamsundar Ravindranath, Associate Professor, IIT Roorkee, who shared his expertise on the use of Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) modified bitumen and its role in improving the performance and durability of pavements. The lecture covered the scientific principles behind bitumen modification, its applications in modern road construction, and advantages such as enhanced elasticity, resistance to cracking, and sustainability in long-term infrastructure development. The resource person also highlighted current research trends and practical challenges in the field, offering students valuable insights into advanced materials used in highway engineering. A total of 62 students actively participated, engaging in discussions and gaining practical knowledge that will strengthen their academic understanding and professional readiness.
On 18th October 2023, a large group of 115 students visited the Karai Syphon Aqueduct at Kadi Y-Junction, accompanied by Dr. R. M. Jain, Dr. P. K. Shah, Prof. Z. J. Chovatiya, and Prof. S. S. Dixit. Students gained first-hand knowledge of canal crossing structures, water management systems, and aqueduct design, strengthening their practical understanding of hydraulic engineering.
On 23rd September 2023, the department organized a visit for 100 students to a Road Construction and Hot Mix Plant in Ahmedabad. Faculty members Prof. V. J. Chitaria, Prof. T. H. Vyas, and Prof. J. P. Modi guided the visit. Students observed the process of road laying, hot mix preparation, and quality control measures, enhancing their understanding of practical aspects of highway engineering.
On 16th September 2023, 42 students visited the PSP Projects Ltd. Precast Plant at Sanand, under the guidance of Prof. P. J. Mehta, Prof. A. G. Hansora, and Prof. P. I. Modi. The visit offered exposure to mechanized precast systems, design-to-production workflows, and quality control in large-scale construction, highlighting the growing importance of precast technology in modern infrastructure.
On 25th August 2023, a group of 22 students visited Allied Container, accompanied by Prof. M. G. Vanza and Prof. C. D. Patel. The visit provided hands-on understanding of logistics, container management, and supply chain infrastructure, enabling students to connect engineering concepts with real-world industrial operations.
Prof. Dr. S. C. Rathod evaluated the SWAYAM course for subject “Engineering Drawing and Computer Graphics” translation from English to Gujarati. The work consisted for evaluation of SWAYAM videos of 30 Hours and 54 minutes and suggest necessary changes for language translation.
The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on the topic “Geo-Synthetics for Development of a Sustainable Infrastructure.” The session was delivered by Shri V. Ravikanth, Assistant Vice President – Business Development, Reliance Corporate Park, Reliance Industries Limited. During the lecture, the resource person highlighted the importance of geo-synthetics in modern civil engineering practices, particularly in enhancing durability, reducing environmental impact, and promoting sustainability in infrastructure projects. The talk also provided insights into recent industry applications, case studies, and future trends in the use of geo-synthetics. A total of 50 students participated enthusiastically, gaining valuable exposure to innovative practices and industry perspectives that will support their academic learning and professional growth.
An Expert Lecture was conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering on the topic “R & B Works and Procedures.” The session was delivered by Shri H. V. Jani, Retired Deputy Executive Engineer, R&B. A total of 37 students actively participated and benefited from the lecture.
LD alumni Shri Dhiren Vora donated useful equipment (Total 9 number) of worth rupees 18 lac as part of lab upgradation. These equipment will be useful to UG and PG program students.
