BIS Technical Sessions on the following topics such as (1) Standardization (2) Standards Formulation Process and Challenges (3) World of Standards was arranged for about 200 students from different departments of LDCE. The session was delivered by the Expert: Mr. Nitish Kumar Verma, Joint Director, BIS, on 09/08/2024 at Vishvakarma Hall, Civil Engineering Department. The entire programme was well coordinated by Prof.Ashwin G. Hansora.
The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on the topic “BIS Technical Sessions on Standardization, Formulation, and World of Standards.” The session was delivered by Mr. Nitish Kumar Verma, Joint Director, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ahmedabad, who shared his expertise on the crucial role of standardization in engineering practices. The lecture highlighted the process of formulating standards, the importance of adhering to BIS codes in civil engineering works, and how standardization ensures safety, quality, and uniformity across infrastructure projects. Mr. Verma also introduced students to the broader “World of Standards,” explaining the interconnections between Indian Standards and international frameworks, and how evolving standards contribute to innovation and global competitiveness. The session emphasized the need for young engineers to stay updated with latest codes, guidelines, and standardization practices. A total of 60 students actively participated, gaining valuable insights into the technical, regulatory, and professional importance of standards in civil engineering.

The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on the topic “GDCR & RERA.” The session was delivered by Shri Jay Dhandukiya along with his team members Mr. Minesh Tripathi and Mr. Darshan Sanghvi, experienced Town Planning Officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the General Development Control Regulations (GDCR) and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA), both of which are crucial frameworks in the field of civil engineering, urban planning, and real estate development. The experts explained the importance of GDCR in guiding systematic urban growth, ensuring compliance with zoning norms, building bylaws, and sustainable development practices. They also elaborated on the provisions of RERA, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and consumer protection in real estate projects. Through real-world examples and practical case discussions, the session helped students understand the legal and technical dimensions of construction and planning. A total of 70 students participated enthusiastically, gaining valuable exposure to regulatory practices that will strengthen their professional competence and awareness of current industry standards.
Expert lecture on “GDCR (General Development Control Regualations) and RERA was arranged for students of B.E. Civil SemV,VII and M.E. Civil (Structural and Geotechnical engineering) on 3.8.24 at Vishveshwarya Hall of Applied Mechanics Department. Both the expert talks were arranged with an aim to apprise the audience of the practical application of GDCR guidelines, zoning regulations, and sustainable urban design principles and practical applications of RERA act. The GDCR guidelines talk was delivered by Shri Jay Dhandukiya (Town Development Officer) and his team comprising of Mr.Minesh Tripathi (Assistant Town Development Officer), Mr.Darshan Sanghvi (Town Development Inspector). The talks were concluded with a healthy round of questions from students. The session was well coordinated by Major Dr.C.S.Sanghvi, Prof.Ashwin G. Hansora and Prof.Poonam I. Modi.
