The department of Applied Mechanics Department of L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad (Under Directorate of Technical Education, Education Department, GoG) successfully organized a National level online FDP on “Earthquake Safe Design and Construction Practice” from (01/12/2020 to 05/12/2020) under the aegis of AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy. The inauguration of the esteemed Online FDP was conducted in the august presence of DR C V R Murty, Institute Chair Professor, IIT, Madras as the Chief Guest & Dr B. S. Munjal, Scientist (Engineer-G), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) as Guest of Honour. The complete FDP was well coordinated by Major Dr.C.S.Sanghvi, Professor & Head Applied Mechanics Dept. Noted Speakers from esteemed Academic Institutes such as National Forensic Science University, IIT Gandhinagar & British Columbia Institute of Technology, Canada were pitched in for the expert talk. Insightful lectures were also delivered by notable Experts from various bodies of GoG such as Road & Building department, Office of RERA. Expert from technology based organization such as National Centre for Peoples’ Action in Disaster Preparedness (NCPDP) and People in Centre had also delivered talk in this FDP. The valedictory function of the FDP was chaired by Shri M.N.Patel (Ex. Principal of LDCE, Ex. Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University). The following faculty members Prof.P.J.Mehta, Prof. A.J.Shah, Prof. A.G.Hansora, Prof. K.A.Parmar, Prof. C.D.Patel, Prof. B.R.Patel, Prof.S.R.SSingh were felicitated with “Certificate of Appreciation” for having worked relentlessly for the successful organization of the FDP.

The department of Applied Mechanics, under the aegis of The Institution of Engineers ( India) Students' Chapter of Civil Engineering organized a webinar entitled " Smart Cities" on 3rd October 2020.
The department celebrated the 53rd Engineer’s Day on 15th Sep 2020. The celebration also marked the Online “Inauguration of the prestigious “The Institution of Engineers (India) Students’ Chapter, Department of Civil Engineering. The official opening of the Students’ Chapter was done at the hands of the most illustrious Alumni of our college “Padma Shri Shri.S.S.Rathore MD, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ex-MD SSNL,Former President IEI). The official opening was followed by a webinar on “Sustainable Development” delivered by yet another remarkable luminary of our Institute “Shri Sameer Sinha”- Founder & Managing Director, SAVVY group, Ahmedabad.
It was a very proud moment for the Department as “The Institution of Engineers ( India) issued the Certificate of Establishment of the Students’ Chapter at the Department of Civil Engineering, at L.D.College of Engineering on 10th Sep 2020. The department in its consistent efforts to promote Industry-Academia Collaboration had planned and organized an Online Meet with Professionals and Stalwarts of Structural & Geotechnical Engineering. The aim of the Online Professional Meet was to deliberate on all the ongoing the concerns of the Industry and to provide an array of Dissertation topics to the Students pursuing their Masters in Structural & Geo-technical Engineering. The webinar was rightly entitled as “Meet the Professionals” – Industry Academia Collaborative Talk and organized on 14th August 2020. The expert Panel of speakers from the domain of Structural Engineering comprised of Shri Vijay Shah ( Bhoomi Consultants), Shri Umesh Soni ( Ambuja Cements Ltd), Shri Bhavik Patel ( Blue Skyz Engineers), Shri Jignesh Gandhi ( CASAD Consultants), Shril Shailesh Desai & Shri Rakesh Mehta ( Saunrachana Strucon Pvt. Ltd), Shri Rakesh Shah ( S3M, Consultants), Shri Bhavin Shah ( SQVe Engineers). The panel of experts from Geotechnical Engineering comprised of Shri Arun Dave ( Geotech Soil Testing Lab), Shri Mahendra Bhavsar ( SAI SYSTRA India Consultants), Shri Mihir Vora ( KBM Engineering Research Laboratory), Shri Parag Dave ( M.K.Soil Testing Laboratory), Shri Nitin Desmukh ( Louis Berger India – Metro Rail). The webinar was meticulously planned and organized by Prof. D.R.Tarachandani,Prof. P.J.Mehta, Prof.Dr.M.V.Shah, Prof. C.D.Patel & Prof. Shalini R. Singh under the able guidance of Prof. Dr. C.S.Sanghvi.
A Certificate of Merit was awarded to Rahul A. Dhanwani ( Student of M.E. Structural Engineering)for securing 1st Position in the Online Quiz competition “ Technical Quiz on IS 456:2000” conducted by IAStructE-CEPT University Student Chapter on 8th August 2020.

Students of B.E.Sem (VIIIth) Civil, Maharshi Raval, Meshwa Shah & Niyati Shah secured 1st Runner up prize and Trophy under the mentorship of Prof.Poonam I. Modi, in the “Sparkling Star” contest organized by Ultra-tech Pvt. Ltd on 6th March’20. 2 out of 34 teams who had participated from all over Ahmedabad were from our department who were shortlisted for the finale round. One of these teams made it to the 1st Runner Up position.
