•Dhruv Trivedi, Sugam Thakkar & Dashrath Mistri, the students of B.E. Civil VIIIth Sem (Batch 2016) bagged 2nd prize and were awarded cheque of Rs.7000/- for their SSIP project carried out under the mentorship of Prof. Poonam I. Modi. These students were felicitated in the event entitled “Innovathon Boot Camp” organized by I.C department on 14.6.2019. On the same day, Dr.Manish V.Shah ( SSIP Co-ordinator of AMD) was also conferred trophy.
An expert talk on “Innovations in Concrete” was arranged on 7.2.19, for the students of B.E. Civil (Sem IV). The talk was delivered Mr.Birjeet Kumar (Marketing Manager of RMC Pvt Ltd) – a division of Prism Cement. The lecture was informative as it helped the students to know about all the latest types of innovation in material of concrete along with its relevant applications.
Under GIDM-LDCE MoU, a training program via virtual classroom on “Orientation to the Principles of Disaster Risk Management-Understanding Risks” for Faculties, Staff and Students of LDCE was organized by Applied Mechanics Department on 1st February 2019. More than 100 students and faculty members have attended the programme.
21st ISTE National student convention-2019 was held on 29th & 30th January, 2019, Applied mechanics department of LDCE had organized competitions on Photography, Quiz, Idea Presentation , Creative charts and Demonstration of concepts of structural engineering using models which aimed to inspire innovative thinking in the various fields of structure design and analysis in which about 250 students had participated. L.D. students bagged up 3rd runners up prizes in Demonstration of concepts of structural engineering using models event , 2nd runners up prizes in, idea presentation and Quiz events and first prize in Creative Charts.
An expert lecture was arranged on 5.1.19 on Real Estate (Regulation & Development Act). The lecture was delivered by Dr. Vatsal S. Patel, Technical Officer, RERA, Gandhinagar. The lecture was well attended by all the students of B.E.(Civil) & M.E and faculty members of both the Civil & Applied Mechanics Department. The session was quite interactive and the speaker Dr.Vatsal Patel answered all the queries posed to him related to the RERA.
Applied Mechanics Department with support of SSIP, Gujarat Cell, LDCE organized an Motivational Talk on “Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Civil Engineering” by expert speaker Shri Rakesh H. Shah, Managing Director, S3M Design Consultants LLP, Ahmedabad as a part of SSIP awareness program on 29th Sept 2018, VS Hall, AMD. More than 118 students of 3rd &5th Sem Civil Engg attended the program along with faculties. The program was coordinated by Dr.M.V. Shah & Prof.P.J. Mehta.
As per the academic calendar the Students of B. E. sem.-7 were taken for the first site visit at construction site of Hostel building of L. D. college of engineering on 30.6.18. The students observed a real life know how on various construction activities like formwork and shuttering arrangement, bar-bending, reinforcement arrangement, concreting and in site aspects of quality control. Prof.A.J.Shah, Prof. D.H.Raval and Prof. B.R.Patel accompanied them on the site visit.
A technical site visit to Surat was arranged for ME ( Structures + Geo-technical) on 15th & 16th Feb’18. The purpose of the visit was to have an insight into the construction of all the major high end projects such as Statue of Unity, Sardar Sarovar Dam and Ukai Dam Site. The highlights of the site visit were the construction of the Core element of the Statue of Unity which is about 157 m high, Routine Inspection Gallery & Gates of the Sardar Sarovar dam site, Pressure regulator unit and Infiltration gallery at Ukai Dam site and Construction of Cable stayed bridge at Surat. A total number of 55 students along with faculty members Prof. B.J.Panchal, Prof.U.K.Patel, Prof.MV.Shah, Prof.C.D.Patel, Prof.B.R.Patel, Prof. S.R.Singh and Prof. Nehal Bhavsar had made the visit with prior permission from the concerning agency.
