Students of B.E. Sem VIIIth Civil ( Rutvik Patel, Maharshi Raval, Krupa Parmar & Sujay Seth), secured 3rd Position and Cash Prize of Rs 20000/- in “National Award Competition for Civil/Structural Engineering Students for Best Innovative Structural Steel Design for a Steel Intensive Innovative Food Grain Godown. The competiont was organized & hosted by Institute of Steel Development and Growth (INSDAG), Kolkotta on 14th-15th Feb 2020. Top 16 entries were selected to present their projects in front of the esteemed Jury members, out of total number of 85 entries pan India. 3 of our teams were amongst these 16 entries. All the teams were thoroughly mentored by Prof. C.D.Patel. The students of the department have been amongst the List of the Winners for this National Level Contest for consecutive last 3 years.
The User defined Project carried by the students of B.E.Civil ( Pass out 2019-20) made headlines in one the leading newspapers ( DNA INDIA) of India. The project theme was based on Sustainable Living whereby the students Dhruv Trivedi, Sugam Thakkar and Dasrath Mistry under the guidance of their mentor Prof.Poonam I. Modi had prepared innovative sandless bricks using the Mining waste. The same project was also recognized by the SSIP team and was awarded 2nd prize by the jury. The project is now carried forward by the next batch of students to take it to a new level.
Delegation from Loyola Marymount University had visited the Applied Mechanics Department on 30th August 2019. The delegates Branden F. Grimmett ( Associate Provost, Career and Professional Development) and Daniel Marschner, Ph.D. ( Director, International Admission and Outreach) had addressed all the students of our program to make them aware of Education opportunities and career development.
An expert lecture on "Capabilities of MIDAS - Civil Software" was arranged for all the final year students (UG) and PG students of ME Civil (Structures) & Geo-tech Engg. The expert talk was delived by Er. Shishir Kumar, Professional Software Engineer.
• Brainstorming session was arranged on 29.6.19 for the faculty and students wherein different Industrial Stalwarts were invited to have an interactive session with the students. The purpose of the session was to make the students and faculty aware of all the latest topics worth pursuing for M.E dissertation. The experts from the Geotechnical engineering who graced the session included: Shri Prakashbhai & Darshan Chhatbar (Sr. Manager & Quality Er) Annandjiwala Consultants), Prof.R.M. Patel & Parth Shah (Sr. Consultant & Manager, M.K. Soil Lab), Shri Mahendra Bhavsar (Sr. General Manager, Sai Systra ltd), Shri Arun Dave (CEO, Geotech Soil Testing Lab). The experts from the Structural Engineering field included: Shri C.H.Shah (Water tank design expert), Shri Vijayan Pandya ( Ultratech), Shri Bimal Acharaya ( Ultratech), Shri Rakesh Shah, Shri Mehul Shah, Shri Vatsal Shukla ( Anviksha Consultants), Shri Devang Patel ( SID Consultants), Shri Mehboob Zindani ( Ducon Consultants) & Shri Vijay Shah.
Dr. R. C. Sonpal Memorial lecture was arranged on 7th April’19, under the aegis of IGS-Ahmedabad Chapter. Dignitaries such as Dr. Amit Prashant (Chairman of IGS Ahmedabad Chapter), Mr. Parag Dave (Director of MK Soil laboratory), Dr. S.P.Dave (Honarary Secretary,, IGS A’bad Chapter & Principal, GEC, Gandhingar) had graced the occasion. The key note address was delivered by Mr. A.M Prakash (Head Quality with Larsen & Toubro Ltd).The Motivational speaker of the memorial lecture was Dr.S.R.Gandhi, who is currently the Director at SVNIT,Surat. Sir had delivered an insightful lecture on “Case Studies of Foundation Failure”. The memorial lecture was attended by all the students of B.E & M.E Civil, faculty members from other engineering institutes.
Students of B.E.Sem (IVth) Civil, Jaydip Chauhan, Arpit Datla & Mohit Bathvar, secured 2nd Runner up prize and Trophy under the mentorship of Prof.Poonam I. Modi, in the “Sparkling Star” contest organized by Ultratech Pvt. Ltd on 12th March’19.
The Applied Mechanics Department scheduled, organized & successfully conducted a training program entitled “ Analysis and Design of Structures Using STAAD.Pro Software” between 11th – 15th March’19 , under the aegis of “Finishing School Advanced Training of Trainers Programme”, jointly organized by GKS & LDCE under the guidance of Principal sir and Dr. M.B.Dholakia Programme Coordinator). Prof P.G.Patel was the Main Coordinator and Prof. C.D.Patel (Co-coordinator) from the Applied Mechanics Department. A total of 23 participants from various Degree Engineering colleges across the state had participated in this training programme. The expert lecture during the training were delivered by the stalwarts like Dr.B.J.Shah, Prof.P.G.Patel, Prof.C.D.Patel. Every single lecture was followed by a hands on session, which made the training all the more effective.
Charmy Joshi student of M.E Sem (IVth) Geo-tech, was conferred the “IACMAG Mastrs Research Award” in International IACMAG Symposium organized by IIT-GN on 5-7th March’19.
•Dhruv Trivedi, Sugam Thakkar & Dashrath Mistri, the students of B.E. Civil VIIIth Sem (Batch 2016) bagged 2nd prize and were awarded cheque of Rs.7000/- for their SSIP project carried out under the mentorship of Prof. Poonam I. Modi. These students were felicitated in the event entitled “Innovathon Boot Camp” organized by I.C department on 14.6.2019. On the same day, Dr.Manish V.Shah ( SSIP Co-ordinator of AMD) was also conferred trophy.
