    Expert Session on Intellectual Property Rights at i-Hub
    On 7th April 2025, the 2nd Semester Civil Engineering students of L. D. College of Engineering visited i-Hub, Ahmedabad, to attend an engaging expert lecture on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The session aimed to enhance students’ awareness of the legal and regulatory aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship.
    
    The experts provided a comprehensive overview of IPR, highlighting its role in safeguarding creative ideas, technological innovations, and entrepreneurial ventures. Through real-world examples and case studies, the resource persons explained the processes of securing patents, copyrights, and trademarks, and how these legal tools empower innovators to protect their intellectual contributions.
    
    The session also emphasized the importance of integrating IPR awareness into the academic journey of engineers, encouraging students to think not only about technical problem-solving but also about the commercial and legal value of their innovations.
    
    The visit proved to be highly informative and inspiring, motivating students to adopt a forward-thinking approach where creativity, innovation, and legal awareness go hand in hand. This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to nurturing future-ready engineers who are well-versed in both technical and entrepreneurial dimensions of their profession. 
  • Expert Lecture on Road Safety Awareness


    Expert Lecture on Road Safety Awareness
    The Department of Civil Engineering, L. D. College of Engineering organized an expert lecture on “Road Safety Awareness” on 10th January 2025. The session aimed at sensitizing young engineers about the importance of traffic rules, safety measures, and sustainable transport practices to minimize road accidents and enhance public safety.
    
    The lecture was delivered by Shri Shaheriar B. Zaveri, Retired Assistant RTO, Consultant (Road Safety), and Member of the Gujarat Road Safety Authority. Drawing from his rich professional experience, Shri Zaveri highlighted key aspects of traffic management, accident prevention strategies, and the role of civil engineers in designing safe and efficient road networks.
    
    The event was further graced by the presence of Shri J. J. Patel, Regional Transport Officer, and Shri C. I. Mahera, Inspector of Motor Vehicles, who shared valuable insights on traffic regulations, enforcement mechanisms, and government initiatives in promoting road safety.
    
    The program was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. R. N. Shukla and Dr. Z. R. Chhayya, who ensured active engagement of students and smooth conduct of the session.
    
    A total of 135 students participated enthusiastically, benefitting from expert discussions and gaining awareness about their role as responsible citizens and future engineers in promoting road safety culture. The lecture proved to be a highly informative and impactful initiative, aligning with the institute’s vision of fostering socially responsible engineering professionals. 
  • SAHYOG 2024 Industry–Academia Meet


    SAHYOG 2024 Industry–Academia Meet
    The Department of Civil Engineering, L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad successfully organized SAHYOG 2024, an Industry–Academia Meet, bringing together distinguished industry leaders, academicians, researchers, and students on a common platform. The event served as a bridge between the academic world and the professional industry, fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange in the field of civil engineering.
    
    The program witnessed the active participation of about 100 students, who had the unique opportunity to interact with experts and gain first-hand exposure to emerging technologies, industry expectations, and the future scope of civil engineering. The event highlighted discussions on sustainable construction practices, modern infrastructure development, use of advanced materials, and the integration of digital tools like BIM, GIS, and automation in engineering projects.

  • Visit to Vasna Barrage


    Visit to Vasna Barrage
    On 14th–15th October 2024, a two-day visit to the Vasna Barrage was organized for 125 students, under the guidance of Prof. R. M. Jadav, Dr. P. K. Shah, Prof. C. N. Bhavsar, and Prof. S. S. Dixit. The visit provided in-depth exposure to dam operations, flood control measures, irrigation systems, and hydraulic structures, linking theoretical knowledge to practical water resource management.

    Visit to Bullet Train Features, Sabarmati Station
    On 14th October 2024, 11 students visited the Bullet Train features at Sabarmati Station, accompanied by Prof. R. K. Jain and Prof. R. N. Shukla. Students were introduced to high-speed rail technology, station design, and passenger facilities, gaining a glimpse of India’s upcoming advancements in high-speed rail infrastructure.

    Expert Lecture Organized: "Refreshing Fundamentals of IS 456."
    The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on the topic “Refreshing Fundamentals of IS 456.” The session was delivered by Mr. Bhavin Shah, Founder & CEO, SQVe Consultants, who shared his rich professional experience and insights on the practical applications of IS 456, the Indian Standard Code of Practice for Plain and Reinforced Concrete. The lecture revisited the fundamental provisions of the code, including design philosophies, material specifications, and safety considerations, while also highlighting common errors and best practices in structural design. Mr. Shah emphasized how a clear understanding of IS 456 is essential for ensuring quality, durability, and safety in civil engineering projects. The interactive session encouraged students to clarify doubts related to code interpretation and real-world implementation. A total of 50 students actively participated, gaining deeper knowledge that will enhance both their academic learning and their preparedness for professional practice.

    Visit to L&T Construction Skills Training Institute, Ahmedabad
    On 3rd–4th October 2024, 90 students visited the L&T Construction Skills Training Institute, Ahmedabad, guided by Prof. A. J. Shah, Prof. D. H. Raval, Prof. A. G. Hansora, and Prof. P. H. Andharia. The visit focused on skill development in modern construction techniques, project management, safety practices, and mechanized tools, offering students practical insights aligned with industry demands.

    On 13th September 2024, 42 students visited the Engineering Workshop at Sabarmati (Kaligam), accompanied by Dr. S. C. Rathod, Prof. S. H. Kazi, and Prof. C. N. Bhavsar. Students observed various fabrication processes, workshop practices, and hands-on applications of construction tools, enhancing their technical exposure beyond classroom learning.

    Expert Lecture Organized: "BIS Technical Sessions on Standardization, Formulation, and World of Standards"
    The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on the topic “BIS Technical Sessions on Standardization, Formulation, and World of Standards.” The session was delivered by Mr. Nitish Kumar Verma, Joint Director, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ahmedabad, who shared his expertise on the crucial role of standardization in engineering practices. The lecture highlighted the process of formulating standards, the importance of adhering to BIS codes in civil engineering works, and how standardization ensures safety, quality, and uniformity across infrastructure projects. Mr. Verma also introduced students to the broader “World of Standards,” explaining the interconnections between Indian Standards and international frameworks, and how evolving standards contribute to innovation and global competitiveness. The session emphasized the need for young engineers to stay updated with latest codes, guidelines, and standardization practices. A total of 60 students actively participated, gaining valuable insights into the technical, regulatory, and professional importance of standards in civil engineering.

    Expert Lecture Organized: “GDCR & RERA.”
    The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture on the topic “GDCR & RERA.” The session was delivered by Shri Jay Dhandukiya along with his team members Mr. Minesh Tripathi and Mr. Darshan Sanghvi, experienced Town Planning Officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the General Development Control Regulations (GDCR) and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA), both of which are crucial frameworks in the field of civil engineering, urban planning, and real estate development. The experts explained the importance of GDCR in guiding systematic urban growth, ensuring compliance with zoning norms, building bylaws, and sustainable development practices. They also elaborated on the provisions of RERA, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and consumer protection in real estate projects. Through real-world examples and practical case discussions, the session helped students understand the legal and technical dimensions of construction and planning. A total of 70 students participated enthusiastically, gaining valuable exposure to regulatory practices that will strengthen their professional competence and awareness of current industry standards.
